Dr. Kalu will examine U.S. heightened security attention on West Africa following the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The Role of AFRICOM in realizing U.S. security interests in the region and the consequences for foreign relations between the U.S. and the several states in West Africa will be analyzed. He is a faculty member in the Department of African American and African Studies at the Ohio State University and his research area is the political economy of development and underdevelopment in Africa. His current book project is on political restructuring in post-conflict states in Africa, which is part of a larger project funded by The Ford Foundation.
